Point System

1.For each year of service as a licensed officer aboard an offshore vessel, or as a Port Captain or Port Engineer for an offshore company: 10 points (maximum allotted is 50 points)

2.For each year of service as a leaderman, foreman or superintendent, in a shipyard that repairs or builds offshore vessels: 10 points (maximum allotted is 50 points)

3.For each year of employment by a Corporate Member as a Marine Auditor or Apprentice: 10 points (maximum allotted is 50 points.

4.Graduation from a state or federal maritime academy: 50 points.

5.Graduation from the State of Louisiana Young Memorial Vocational College Course entitled “Marine Safety Auditors Course” (including passing the final exam) : 50 points

6..Special points may be given by the Board of Regents, at their discretion, for any related experience such as time in the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, Army Transportation Corps, or as Safety Technicians, Offshore Medics, etc.


Note: Potential Full Members must submit a completed application form to the Board of Regents for consideration. After review of the application, an interview may or may not be required at the discretion of the Board. Application Forms are available by request from SPMA at its headquarters in Houston.
